Carpenter is the founder of the Underground Writers Association. He started the non-profit in 2017 and continues to oversee all operations today.

J. Carpenter is an American poet and singer songwriter based in New England. He was born in 1992 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, then raised in Portland, Maine, from the age of two. Carpenter is also known for his daring dog rescue in 2015, adopting his dog Sadie 1500 miles from home, and making national news.

Turner joined the association in 2020 after winning the 2019 poetry book competition and publishing the title with UWA. She has previously worked for Union Park Press, both edited and written for dozens of publications, and sat on the board of directors for the RCF poetry foundation.

Nicole Jean Turner is an artist with an affinity for vignettes, napping outdoors, and conversations that confront the human condition. She writes in cursive to hide the butchered spelling that would otherwise raise suspicion about her master’s degree in writing.
